Today, the open secret circulating in the industry has been officially confirmed: the launch of the Scenic Eclipse will be delayed until the end of January 2019 instead of August 2018 as planned.
This super-luxury yacht is being built at the Uljanik shipyard in Croatia, which has experienced financial difficulties in recent months, resulting in a change of ownership. This has impacted the timeline, as Glen Moroney, Chairman of the Scenic Board, explained: “Despite our best efforts, we are not in a position to guarantee the quality we want by August 2018.”.
“We apologize to our affected guests for any inconvenience caused and confirm that Scenic will fully refund bookings and any other reasonable costs associated with these trips. In addition, the Scenic team will work with guests to find new travel dates within the next two years. Scenic will offer guests who rebook on a different date an onboard credit worth 25% of the cost of their original cruise.”.
The ship, with a capacity for only 228 passengers, is set to redefine luxury exploration cruises, as it will feature a submarine, a helicopter, and several restaurants. A second unit is planned for 2020.
