P&O Cruises has taken a significant step forward with the first steel cutting of its new ship at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg. Josh Weinstein, President of Carnival UK, said, “This is the first time in 20 years that P&O Cruises has built a ship at Meyer Werft, and I would like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to get to this moment.”.
Pau Ludlow, Senior Vice President of P&O Cruises, added, “It’s an exciting day. Our new ship will be the largest ever operated by the company and the largest ever dedicated exclusively to the UK cruise industry. It will also be the first ship in our market powered by LNG, the cleanest fossil fuel. We are confident about the future and believe this ship will receive an exceptionally positive response from the British market, and will convince many consumers to take their first cruise.”.
P&O Cruises will announce the name of its new ship next Thursday, May 24, at 4 p.m. on its Facebook page. This announcement marks the end of a competition in which the public was asked to suggest a name for the ship, and which received 30,000 proposals.
