On August 31, 2018, the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg will host a major event called AIDA Open Air, where the new AIDAnova yacht will be christened and a concert by superstar DJ David Guetta will take place. Tickets for the event will go on sale on March 9 for €35 plus the booking fee.
The celebration will feature a spectacular light and fireworks show and is expected to draw 25,000 people. The name of the ship's godmother has not yet been revealed.
The event will be streamed on the AIDA website and on all ships in the fleet. Following the christening, the AIDAnova will embark on its maiden voyage in mid-September to Eemshaven in the Netherlands. Once the ship has received its final touches and completed several sea trials, it will be delivered by the shipyard on November 15, 2018, in Bremerhaven. Prior to its inaugural voyage on December 2, 2018, from Hamburg to the Canary Islands, guests will be able to experience the world's first cruise ship capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) on several exclusive pre-inaugural voyages.
