Nicole Langosch, 34, will be in charge of the AIDAsol. This makes her the first female captain in the AIDA fleet and the highest-ranking female captain of a cruise ship in Germany.
Nicole Langosch was born in Osterode and grew up in Herborn, Hesse. Sailing was her first experience with seafaring. She completed her nautical science studies in Leer. During her logistics studies, she worked for a container shipping company in Oakland, New Zealand, and for the European Parliament in Brussels. Her first nautical experience was on a container ship. Langosch has held various positions on AIDA ships over the past 10 years.
“I am proud to work for a company that promotes the careers of young women and that has made it possible for me to achieve my dream profession. I am looking forward to starting in my new role as captain aboard the AIDAsol and I am aware of the great responsibility,” said Langosch.
With a length of 253 meters and a beam of 23 meters, AIDAsol is one of the 12 ships in the AIDA fleet and currently sails between the Canary Islands and Madeira. On March 25, 2018, Captain Langosch will command the ship for Hamburg. From there, the ship will depart on April 7 for Northern Europe and Norway.
AIDA Cruises currently employs 14 female officers across its fleet. With a customized dual study and practical program, developed in collaboration with the University of Wismar, AIDA Cruises offers an innovative concept in nautical science education in Warnemünde.
