Following the extraordinary global interest in Scenic's new 6-star ship, the Scenic Eclipse, the company has announced that its flagship will have a twin, the Scenic Eclipse II.
The Scenic Eclipse II will reinforce Scenic's position as an innovative leader in the cruise industry, setting an unparalleled benchmark in design, luxury, and technology.
Launching in 2020, the Scenic Eclipse II will begin its maiden voyage in Athens and end in Lisbon, before beginning its inaugural season, which will include the European and Russian Arctic, a region of great natural diversity, perfect for exploration by Scenic's 6-star fleet of luxury expedition ships.
The itineraries will include remote and long-sought destinations, including Russia's White Sea, a true delight for explorers at heart, and a luxury journey that will more than satisfy those yearning to experience the delights of untamed territory; the Northwest Passage, representing the pinnacle of polar exploration; the rarely visited southern Greenland, with wildlife that offers some of the most spectacular and unexplored landscapes on earth; and Alaska to Russia via the Bering Sea, to experience the absolute beauty that this remote region has to offer.
Scenic founder and president Glen Moroney said the expansion of Scenic's ocean cruise fleet was a natural progression for the company and that he was very excited about it.
“Since we first announced our foray into ocean cruising, we have had unprecedented interest in the Scenic Eclipse from guests eager to experience our unique combination of 6-star luxury with expedition cruising,” Moroney said.
“The debut of Scenic Eclipse II will not only allow us to expand our offerings and pioneer new destinations, such as the Russian Arctic, but will also enable us to continue our passion for design innovation and handcrafted itineraries, which we are confident will appeal to a wide variety of guests. Itineraries for the ship’s debut season will be launched in April 2018,” he said.
Construction will begin next year in Pula, Croatia, where the Scenic Eclipse is currently being built. The Scenic Eclipse II will have a similar design, including 114 veranda suites, nine restaurants, eight lounges and bars, a luxurious Sanctuary Spa, a fitness area, and both indoor and outdoor pools, as well as a marina, helicopters, and a submarine.

The Scenic Eclipse fleet will be built to meet the new requirements of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Polar Code, as well as the highest international safety standards. Utilizing cutting-edge technology and a range of safety features, including innovative zero-speed stabilizing fins that are 50% larger for even greater stability, the vessel will have an Ice Class 1A (Polar Class 6) rating – the highest of any luxury vessel – ensuring the safest navigation through polar waters. The ship will also feature special “safe return to port” capabilities, guaranteeing that essential systems remain operational in the unlikely event of an incident.
