The Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) has partially opened the new Maritime Station No. 6. Located on the West Dock, this facility is designed to improve the quality of service offered to cruise passengers based on ships over 300 meters in length.
The first ship to use the new facilities was the Mein Schiff 3 , which docked without incident at approximately 4:00 AM on October 10th. The 3,000-square-meter space will operate on a temporary basis until March 31st, the date on which the new maritime terminal is expected to be fully operational
The joint venture OHL-VOPSA, responsible for the execution of this project, works six days a week to meet the commitments made to the APB and thus guarantee the commissioning of safe and comfortable facilities in the port of Palma during the months of highest cruise traffic.
The construction of the new maritime terminal number 6 at the Port of Palma has a budget of 12 million euros and will employ approximately 50 to 60 people. The project includes the expansion of the maritime station, which will increase its area from 2,500 square meters to approximately 10,000 square meters.
Furthermore, in order to maximize the safety conditions of passenger boarding and disembarkation operations, the APB proposes a reorganization of the uses of the esplanade adjacent to this dock.
