A spectacular light and music show, followed by dazzling fireworks, transformed the night sky over Palma de Mallorca's port and old town into a brilliant ocean of color during the christening of the AIDAperla, the 12th member of the AIDA fleet. Model and presenter Lena Gercke christened the ship "AIDAperla," and, in keeping with AIDA Cruises' recent tradition, the AIDAperla was accompanied during the event by its sister ship, the AIDAaura.
German fans were able to watch the christening live online, on AIDA Cruises' social media channels, and on board all of its ships. The company received congratulations from celebrities such as model and godmother of AIDAluna Franziska Knuppe, Thore Schölermann, host at the christening of the AIDAperla, and winners of "The Voice of Germany" Jamie Lee and Tay Schmedtmann.
The biggest surprise of the evening was a performance by Irish artist Rea Garvey, who delighted the nearly 3,000 guests on board with an hour-long concert and announced the countdown to the christening. Guests enjoyed the onboard party at the Beach Club and other venues until the early hours of the morning. Tay Schmedtmann, winner of the sixth season of "The Voice of Germany," and Jamie Lee, who not only won the fifth season but also represented Germany at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm, entertained the guests with their performances.
