Once the final figures for the morning shift were available, the strike participation rate rose to 98.3%. According to information received from the Port Authorities, the strike participation rate for this afternoon shift is very similar to that of the first shift, reaching 98.2%.
As in the morning, it appears that operators have rescheduled their routes, resulting in a significant reduction in the number of workers called in for today. If we exclude the workers assigned to minimum services, the number of appointments totaled 447, representing approximately 80% less than for a normal shift.
A significant number of ports, as a result of traffic reductions due to the rescheduling of port calls by operators, have not called in dockworkers, except to handle traffic affected by minimum services. These ports are: Algeciras, Alicante, Almería, the Balearic Islands, Cádiz, A Coruña, Ferrol, Motril, Málaga, Melilla, Vigo, Vilagarcía, and Seville.
Across all ports, 515 staff members were appointed for the second shift, of whom 439 participated in the strike, which, taking into account the minimum services, represents a 98.2% participation rate.
No special shifts were scheduled for this afternoon. Ultimately, the scheduling of special shifts for today resulted in requests from 199 workers, of whom 7 were assigned to minimum services. The strike participation rate for the special shifts was 100%.
In the cumulative total of shifts 1 and 2, 1,088 dockworkers have been requested, of whom 920 have followed the strike, which, taking into account the minimum services, represents a 98.2% participation rate.
Regarding the delivery and receipt of goods by truck, there has been a low level of activity, due to the rescheduling carried out by the operators, and consequently there has been no incident in road traffic.
In general, the mandated minimum services have been met. On regular shifts, 68 workers were assigned to minimum services. A total of 152 workers were assigned to minimum services across both shifts.
Furthermore, the National Court has denied the suspension of minimum services requested by the Coordinadora union, thus upholding the resolution issued by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Housing on June 7th. According to the National Court, “a preliminary examination of the conflicting interests, given the nature of the goods and the supply needs, does not allow for the conclusion that the public interest should be subordinated to private interests.”
Apart from the minor incidents reported during the morning shift, no significant incidents occurred during the afternoon shift
