The Albatros cruise ship, operated by the German company Phoenix Reisen, docked at the Dique pier in the Port of Motril with passengers on board eager to immerse themselves in Andalusian culture and explore the Costa Tropical. Its more than 700 occupants were welcomed by the music of the Flamenco Sabor a Mar group and enjoyed a tasting of Torta Real, a traditional Motril sweet. This promotional event was organized by the City Council and co-financed by the Provincial Council of Granada.
The president of the Port Authority, Francisco Álvarez de la Chica, praised “the institutional commitment to promoting our customs and heritage,” while also noting that the ship's next stop is Tangier, adding that “Motril is now doubly connected to the Moroccan city, through the FRS regular ferry service and by cruise ship.” He was accompanied by the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Alicia Crespo, who emphasized the importance of the details “to ensure cruise passengers leave with a positive impression of the destination.” In addition to the activities at the dock, a shuttle bus operated throughout the afternoon to allow passengers to explore the city.
In Germany, this ship became popular after starring in a television series. The Albatros, a 205-meter-long vessel, was built in 1973, although it underwent a major refurbishment in 2015. It was previously in Motril in April 2015. The shipping agent was Motril-shipping.
