The recent opening of the new cruise terminal at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has already led one of the leading shipping companies in the sector, AIDA Cruises, to choose the capital city's port as a base for three of its large ships during the upcoming 2017-2018 cruise season.
The ships that will carry out this important operation in the new building will be AIDAsol, AIDAblu and AIDAprima, a fact that will result in the participation of practically 170,000 cruise passengers in it.
The cruise terminal at the port of Tenerife is already proving to be a key element in increasing the movement of cruise passengers in the region by accommodating larger vessels, which require special attention for passenger changes and which only the new Tenerife infrastructure can provide.
Specifically, the AIDAsol will begin using the new station in September and will be based there every Saturday, while the AIDAblu will do the same on Mondays, every ten days, as part of a new itinerary that will "touch" the ports of Lisbon and Cadiz in combination with Tenerife and La Gomera.
This new itinerary will allow AIDA Cruises to double its capacity in La Gomera, with 2,200 German passengers per stop, rising to 4,400 in Tenerife thanks to the home port operation. Both ships will also call at the port of La Palma.
Meanwhile, the AIDAprima, the largest in the German tourism market, will arrive weekly every Wednesday, starting next November 15.
It is worth noting that the activity of the cruise terminal at the port of Tenerife also promotes the internal connectivity of the island by creating new business opportunities outside the port facility, in areas such as hospitality, transport companies and airlines.
