Carnival will use the technology created to reduce sulfur compounds and particles generated by the engine during operation, at sea, during various maneuvers, and in port.
These systems allow Carnival to comply with the regulations of the International Maritime Organization, which currently limits sulfur emissions to 0.1%.
“This is the result of our work with new technologies, the use of new shipbuilding techniques, and the improvement of energy-saving initiatives across our fleet to protect the life of the oceans, seas, and communities in which we operate,” said Mike Kaczmarek, Vice President of Marine Technology at Carnival.
Scrubbers are currently installed on 17 Carnival Cruise Line ships, 13 Holland America Line ships, 10 Princess Cruises ships, seven Costa Cruises ships, five AIDA Cruises ships, four P&O Cruises ships, three Cunard ships, and one P&O Cruises Australia ship.
