“Scuole di Mestiere” consists of a series of workshops and masters designed with the participation of some of Costa Cruises, names recognized worldwide as synonymous with Italian excellence: Università del Caffè illy, Cantine Ferrari, Academia Barilla, CAST Alimenti – School of Taste Trades and the Università degli Studi di Scienze Gastronomiche (UNISG Pollenzo).

Thanks to this project, by the end of 2016, Costa Cruises will have trained more than 90 onboard managers.

This initiative reinforces Costa Cruises ' already established alliance with its partners and allows all of the company's guests to enjoy Ferrari Trentodoc sparkling wine, Barilla pasta dishes , illy blend , and pizza made with sourdough from the Università degli Studi di Scienze Gastronomiche .

Neil Palomba, President of Costa Cruises, stated: “The Scuole di Mestiere project is a pioneering initiative in our industry and allows us to further strengthen our ties with leading Italian brands of excellence and offer our guests the very best of Italy: illy, Barilla, Ferrari, CAST Alimenti, and the Università degli Studi di Scienze Gastronomiche di Pollenzo. These excellent Italian products are the envy of the world and are also the fruit of a culture that we showcase on board our ships thanks to the Scuole di Mestiere.”

At the Università del caffè illy in Trieste, a center of excellence dedicated to promoting coffee culture and knowledge around the world, participants learn the most sophisticated techniques for making the perfect espresso and cappuccino according to Italian tradition.

Cantine Ferrari offers its decades of experience to uncover the secrets of Italian sparkling wine through its history, values, local roots, and the fusion of food and wine. Participants thus acquire the necessary tools to convey the nuances of Ferrari Trentodoc sparkling wine to Costa guests .

At the Barilla Academy, the first international center dedicated to the dissemination, promotion, and development of Italian culinary culture, chefs from Costa Cruises are being certified as ambassadors of Italian cuisine. After training that combines visits to Barilla with practical lessons, they will all be able to conduct cooking demonstrations and present pasta in the most effective way.

At CAST Alimenti, the school of culinary arts, Costa's pastry chefs will be able to update and refine their skills to master the most intricate pastry techniques, all under the watchful eye of Master Chef Massari. Demonstrations and hands-on lessons on plating and chocolate making will enable participating pastry chefs to create the most exquisite desserts.

Last but not least, at the Università degli Studi di Scienze Gastronomiche di Pollenzo, Costa 's bakers and pizza masters learn all about the treatment of products such as flour, yeast, and mixes for bread and pizza, always with special attention and care to the environmental and sustainability consequences.
