With the debut of its newest ship, the Norwegian Bliss, in June 2018, Norwegian Cruise Line will usher in a new era of Alaskan cruises. The Norwegian Bliss will be the first ship designed specifically for Alaskan cruises. Sailing from Seattle to Alaska, the Norwegian Bliss will be the first Norwegian Cruise Line ship to debut in Washington State's largest city.
At a ceremony held at Pier 66 in the Port of Seattle, Norwegian's President and CEO, Andy Stuart, shared this news accompanied by the CEO of the Port of Seattle, Ted Fick, and the Commission President of the Port of Seattle, John Creighton.
“Norwegian was the first cruise line to begin sailing from Seattle to Alaska in 2000, so bringing our newest ship, the Norwegian Bliss, directly to this incredible destination feels very fitting,” said Andy Stuart. “Alaska is a fascinating destination, and we’re excited to be the first cruise line to offer our guests the opportunity to experience this popular destination aboard a brand-new ship with the latest technology, designed specifically for Alaska—the first of its kind to make its debut in Seattle.”.
The Norwegian Bliss, with approximately 167,800 gross tons and a capacity for 4,000 passengers at double occupancy, will be built at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, and is scheduled for delivery in the spring of 2018.
From Seattle's Pier 66, the Norwegian Bliss will depart every Saturday for 7-night Alaskan cruises with stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Victoria, Canada, as well as a glacier cruise in Alaska.
