Miami-Dade County and Royal Caribbean have announced an agreement to build a cruise terminal at the Port of Miami that will allow the company to bring its Oasis cruise line to the port, with an average capacity of more than 5,400 passengers, according to Royal Caribbean.
“This public-private partnership will have an estimated economic impact of $500 million and will generate about 4,000 jobs,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Giménez.
The future Terminal A, known as “Miami’s Crown,” will occupy more than 15,800 square meters. It will attract 1.8 million passengers, representing 30 percent of the total projected passenger traffic for the port. It is scheduled to begin operations at the end of 2018.
Currently, the Port of Miami receives approximately 750,000 Royal Caribbean passengers each year, representing 15% of the average annual passenger traffic.
“We are truly excited to be working with Miami-Dade County and the Port of Miami to create not just another cruise terminal, but a truly iconic building,” said Royal Caribbean President and CEO Richard Fain.
