The Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) and the Government of the Balearic Islands have announced the start of a joint collaboration between both entities in order to unify management criteria for the archipelago's ports, to improve and strengthen the services offered and which will benefit the commercial fabric of the community.
The president of the APB, Joan Gual de Torrella, and the Minister of Territory, Energy and Mobility of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Marc Pons, have agreed that, while respecting the autonomy of both institutions, the "smartest" thing to do is to increase coordination between them for a better service to both residents and tourists.
According to the president of the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB), it's a single user, regardless of whether two administrations offer the same service. "One of the consequences of this agreement is to have a single criterion for a single user," regardless of whether it's applied by two different organizations.
Among the first agreements reached is a commitment to coordinate the international promotion of the ports as a tourist destination, establishing a quality brand for standardized nautical services across all port facilities in the islands. There is also an intention to simplify the administrative procedures for obtaining moorings.
At the local level, to specify how to fit the commercial role of the ports of Ibiza with Sant Antoni de Portmany, on the island of Ibiza, and that of Maó with that of Ciutadella, in Menorca, complementing them even though they are managed by different administrations.
Also, in conjunction with the Ministries of Education and Labor, we will promote vocational training to supply sectors in need of qualified local professionals. We will also study Algeria's request to establish a maritime route between Barcelona, Palma, and Algiers.
