The Royal Caribbean Cruises group has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with STX France to build a fifth Oasis-class ship for delivery in 2021, and two Edge-class ships from Celebrity Cruises for delivery in late 2021 and 2022.
“The response to the arrival of Harmony of the Seas has been astounding, making even more people eager to cruise on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Richard D. Fain, President and CEO of the Royal Caribbean group. “And the Edge class is one of the most anticipated projects, following the high bar set by its predecessors, the Solstice class, for Modern Luxury design.”.
“Although the first Edge-class ship is still two years away from being built, there has been tremendous interest in the new standard of style it will introduce,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises. “The Solstice class ushered in a new era in modern cruise ship design, and the Edge class will not disappoint as the next generation of style and design.”.
Finally, Laurent Castaing, Managing Director of STX Frane, expressed his satisfaction with the success of Harmony of the Seas and his pride in their new partnership with Royal Caribbean. “It is especially exciting to collaborate on various projects such as Oasis and Edge, both marvels in their own right,” he added.
