The Port of A Coruña has welcomed the Zuiderdam, a Holland America Line cruise ship, which arrived from the Azores and is scheduled to depart for Cherbourg. This is the cruise ship's first stop in A Coruña, and to mark the occasion, its captain hosted a reception on board for representatives of the Port Authority, the City Council, the Maritime Authority, and the State Security Forces.

The ship, 292 meters long, is sailing with 1,800 passengers on board and 800 crew members, making a total of 2,600 people who have disembarked to see the city.
Including the Zuiderdam, a total of 18 port calls were recorded throughout April, carrying more than 26,300 passengers. This figure represents the same number of port calls as in the same period of 2015, while passenger numbers have increased, as 23,600 passengers arrived in the city between January and April of last year.
The May schedule will open with a new first call, this time from Viking Ocean Cruises. It's the Viking Sea, with a capacity for around 1,000 passengers. May is expected to be the busiest month of the year, with a total of 20 calls, among which the Britannia will be a highlight. The P&O company's flagship was chartered last year and is one of the most luxurious ships currently available, with a capacity for 3,600 passengers. Also noteworthy in terms of size are the Emerald Princess and the Navigator of the Seas, which can accommodate more than 3,000 passengers. As for the schedule planned for the entire year, it anticipates around 100 calls and approximately 140,000 passengers, thus consolidating the figures achieved in 2015.
