The passenger terminal at Amsterdam's docks is being extended by 30 meters, which will include a pedestrian bridge and two new berths. This will allow for more berthing options and accommodate larger ships arriving in the Dutch city.
In terms of river cruises, the easternmost pier at the Ruyterkade Oost mooring is being relocated this year to provide more space for 110- and 135-meter vessels. The Westelijk Stationseiland facilities will also be improved with the removal of two small jetties. Piers 17 and 18 are also being renovated and relocated. A new pier is being built in their place to accommodate 110- and 135-meter river cruise ships. The project is expected to be completed in 2018.
Work is currently underway to obtain the necessary permits to open the new mooring in Westerdoksdijk.
Starting in 2019, a new lock will be built in IJmuiden, capable of accommodating the next generation of cruise ships and operating 24/7. Construction is expected to begin this year.
