The design of the new generation ships, powered by Liquefied Natural Gas, will be inspired by the concept of The Best of Italy.
Costa Cruises has appointed New York-based designer Adam D. Tihany as Creative Director for its two new ships, powered by liquefied natural gas, due for delivery in 2019 and 2020. Under Tihany's leadership, Costa Cruises will assemble a team of elite designers to execute this vision for next-generation ships inspired by the best of Italy.
“It’s a true honor to be able to tell a design story from the director’s chair,” said Tihany. “The fact that this opportunity also creates a partnership with Costa Cruises is the most extraordinary thing. The phrase ‘Best of Italy’ not only describes the design concept, but it completely embodies the Costa brand.”.
The design of the new ships will reflect feedback and suggestions from Costa passengers, making more efficient use of ship space and ultimately creating a better passenger experience.
“We are fortunate to have Mr. Tihany, a preeminent hospitality designer, as creative director for our next-generation ships,” said Neil Palomba, CEO of Costa Cruises. “The Best of Italy concept embodies the roots and identity of Costa Cruises. It includes the very best our country has to offer: passion, quality, hospitality, and, of course, style. I am confident that Mr. Tihany will create a unique style for our ships, helping us to offer our guests happy and unforgettable vacations.”.
Costa's new ships will be the first in the industry to be powered at sea by liquefied natural gas (LNG), along with two others ordered for Aida Cruises (Costa Group's German brand). Built at the Meyer shipyard in Turkey, Finland, each of Costa's new ships will weigh over 180,000 tons, offering more than 2,600 passenger cabins, with a total capacity of 6,600 passengers on board.
