HOMEStrategic lines of action presented for the Port of Santander

The strategic action plans for the Port of Santander have been presented

The President of the Port Authority of Santander, Jaime González, accompanied by the President of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, and the Regional Minister for Industry, Innovation, Trade, and Tourism, Francisco Martín, presented the initiatives that will define the Port's future in the coming years. González highlighted that, in the short term, the aim is, among other things, to increase the number of Brittany Ferries calls, improve rail operations between Muriedas and the Port, and optimize the accessibility and storage capacity of the port facilities. He also stated that, during this period, production at Santander Coated Solutions will begin, short-sea container/MAFI traffic will be boosted, new traffic routes will be incorporated, and the development of the agreement between the various administrations regarding the maritime front will continue.

Regarding the actions planned for the medium term, specifically between 2017 and 2019, the Port Authority President highlighted initiatives such as boosting logistics activity in the Logistics Storage Zone (ZAL), increasing RoRo traffic of general cargo, and attracting vessels that will promote mixed container and RoRo traffic. He also emphasized the importance of expanding the ferry terminal, continuing the development of port infrastructure, and ensuring the port is prepared to meet the demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering.

Looking ahead to 2020 and 2025, the port authority emphasized the importance of Santander becoming a primary node in the Trans-European Transport Network's core network, achieving a rail capacity of 900 meters in length and 1,000 tons, and exploring the need for an inland port, in addition to a container terminal. He also stressed the need to improve draft, consolidate the port as a connection route to Central Europe, and successfully complete the urban redevelopment of Santander's waterfront.
