Princess Cruises has announced a new bar and restaurant concept aboard three of its ships, called "The Salty Dog Gastropub." Located in theWheelhouse Bar, it will offer gourmet small plates inspired by a typical bar menu, along with craft beers, cocktails, and wines. The Salty Dog Gastropub debuted this month aboard the Crown Princess.
The menu was developed in collaboration with chef Ernesto Uchimura, who was recently awarded "Chef of the Year: Master of Comfort" in Los Angeles magazine.
Customers can choose three small plates from the “Salty Dog” menu. The chef has reinvented some classic pub dishes, including Pale Ale pork cheeks, spicy stout ribs, wild mushroom stir-fry, and lobster macaroni and cheese.
The main course is Chef Uchimura's " La Ernesto " burger – beef rib meat, grilled pork belly, caramelized kimchi, beer-crushed jalapeño, caramelized onion aioli, and a delicious cave-aged Gruyere cheese topping.
“The ‘Salty Dog Gastropub’ is an exciting addition to our onboard dining options and brings a unique new choice for our guests,” said Rai Caluori, Executive Vice President of Guest Experience at Princess Cruises. “Guests can enjoy Chef Uchimura’s signature burger, along with reimagined bar dishes, for an even more premium experience.”
“A gastropub at sea is an innovative concept that inspired me to be more creative in the kitchen,” said Chef Uchimura. “The ‘Salty Dog’ menu will not only satisfy cravings for fine dining, but will also offer guests new bar food flavors that can be perfectly paired with a craft beer or a good whiskey.”
Next to the Salty Dog Gastrobar, the Wheelhouse Bar will feature an international whisky menu showcasing the finest Scotch, American Bourbon, and international whiskies from Japan, Ireland, and Australia. These include Johnny Walker Blue, Bakery Hill Classic (Australia), Connemara Irish Cask Whisky (Ireland), and Hakushu 12 Year Old (Japan). The menu also offers daily expert whisky tastings, giving guests the opportunity to sample and compare selections from around the world.
The “Salty Dog Gastrobar” and its extensive international whisky menu will be available at the Wheelhouse Bar. It was recently launched on board the Crown Princess, but will soon be available on the Emerald Princess and Ruby Princess in mid-December. There will be a $19 per person.
The whisky menu will also be available at the “Wheelhouse Bar” on board the ships: Dawn Princess, Sea Princess, Sun Princess, Diamond Princess and Golden Princess by the end of 2015, and subsequently on board all ships, with the exception of Pacific Princess in the summer of 2016.
