Princess Cruises announces the name of its new ship, “Majestic Princess,” which will be based in China

Princess Cruises announced that its newest ship, still under construction, will be named Majestic Princess and will be a sister ship to the Royal Princess and Regal Princess. The new vessel will be based in China year-round and will begin operations in the summer of 2017. This will be the first ship built specifically for Chinese customers, blending features from both the Chinese and international markets.

“Both the Royal Princess and the  Regal Princess took their names from very iconic ships, whereas the Majestic Princess will bear a name chosen by our employees worldwide,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “The name Majestic Princess perfectly reflects the exclusive program and magnificent experience that Princess Cruises will offer our Chinese guests,” Swartz added.

Due to its dedication to the Chinese market, the Majestic Princess will also bear a Chinese name on its hull, ????? (Shèng Shì Gong Zhu Haò) – selected by employees of Carnival plc China, meaning “Great World” or “Sublime Spirit”.

The 143,000-ton vessel is being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. It will be based in Shanghai and will have the capacity to carry 3,560 passengers on itineraries to Japan and Korea. It will also offer many of the features that have made the Royal Princess and Regal Princess so popular and distinctive. These include a spectacular multi-story atrium that serves as the ship's social hub; a dramatic glass-bottomed observation deck on the upper deck that extends 8 meters beyond the edge of the ship; an interactive studio for live recordings; the largest pastry shop at sea; and the chef's signature Table Lumière, a private dining experience where guests are surrounded by a curtain of light.

“We are very excited that Shanghai will receive the latest and most advanced ship in the Princess fleet. This represents our commitment to the continued growth of the Chinese market,” said Swartz.

The Majestic Princess will feature the finest onboard dining, including Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, French, and North and South American cuisine, with dishes prepared onboard using fresh ingredients. Guests can enjoy a festival of dance, music, and crafts from diverse and exotic cultures, accompanied by international guest artists, as well as a Las Vegas-style production featuring a cast of singers and dancers from around the world.

“Every day, all over the world, our guests create lasting memories from their experiences while savoring freshly prepared dishes designed to bring each destination to life,” Swartz added. “The Majestic Princess will allow us to bring the very best the world has to offer to our Chinese guests—an unprecedented premium experience inspired by our passion for the magnificent places we sail.”

All cruise passengers in China can enjoy the Princess Class experience, designed specifically for the Chinese market. This exclusive program features dedicated and attentive service from the crew, enriching each guest's onboard experience with cultural, culinary, and entertainment programs. Guests can enjoy traditional English afternoon tea, delicious grilled lobster, balcony dining, a hot pot dinner option with an ocean view, ballroom dancing, and a duty-free shopping experience in the onboard stores.

Guests can also enjoy a water, light, and sound show, as well as the traditional Movies Under the Stars, featuring the largest open-air screen at sea; and of course, balconies in all outside cabins. The accommodations have been designed for families and travelers of all ages.
