Costa Crociere and AIDA Cruises have decided to donate a total of 200,000 euros to refugee aid projects in Italy and Germany, to support all those who have escaped war and persecution, in search of a life of freedom and security in Europe.
“The current situation is an exceptional challenge for all of Europe. The fate of refugees concerns us all. Hundreds of thousands of people who have left everything behind need all the support we can give them. For us, it is a matter of humanity to provide help now, quickly and without red tape,” says Michael Thamm, CEO of the Costa Group.
Costa Crociere will support Doctors Without Borders with a donation of €100,000. “Europe is facing a major emergency, and we at Costa feel a responsibility to offer our support,” says Neil Palomba, CEO of Costa Crociere. “Every day, we learn more about this extremely sad situation and the needs of the refugees. We believe we must provide concrete support to the ongoing relief efforts, and that is why we want to support them.”.
Since 2002, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has provided medical assistance to refugees and migrants both upon arrival and at the First Aid and Reception Centers in Pozzallo, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health. MSF also offers medical and psychological support at ports and reception centers in the province of Ragusa. In May 2015, MSF launched its maritime rescue operations in the Mediterranean, with three dedicated ships.
