Enrique Losada received Xulio Ferreiro today in an institutional meeting that focused on Punta Langosteira, its business opportunities and the process of relocating operators.
The president of the Port Authority assured that he would welcome any proposal from the City Council regarding the financing of the project, provided it is firm, specific, and financially sound.
The president of the Port Authority of A Coruña, Enrique Losada, today received the mayor of A Coruña, Xulio Ferreiro, at the headquarters of the public body, in an institutional meeting in which they addressed matters of general interest in the field of infrastructure and the port-city relationship.
At the end of the meeting, the president of the Port Authority noted the cordial tone of the meeting, emphasizing that<lo que es bueno para la ciudad es bueno para el puerto también> The main topic discussed was the Outer Port and its potential as an engine for job creation and wealth generation for A Coruña and its surrounding area. Enrique Losada invited the mayor to visit the Punta Langosteira facilities to gain a more in-depth understanding of the complex. <que nos va a situar en la primera división portuaria a nivel internacional en un breve espacio de tiempo> Furthermore, he briefed Xulio Ferreiro on the details of the process of transferring operators from the inner port to the outer port, which is progressing well with facilities already underway and new applications for concessions and warehouse expansions.
The meeting also analyzed the financing options for the new port facilities, specifically the need to sell off certain port assets in different timeframes, such as the Batería and Calvo Sotelo docks, which must be freed up before 2017, and the oil dock, which will be freed up when Repsol's relocation is completed.
Regarding the valuation of the port land, Enrique Losada explained that the real estate sector is not currently experiencing its best moment, while also noting that there are two agreements signed in 2004 stipulating that the sale of the freed-up docks will contribute one-third of the total costs associated with the investment in the Outer Port. Given that this investment amounts to approximately 735 million euros, the portion corresponding to the sale of the port land would be around 240 million euros. Furthermore, these agreements indicate that the 10% of the profits that would correspond to the City Council are transferred to the Port Authority to the extent that this percentage is not reached. Finally, Enrique Losada indicated that the public body is open to any proposal from the City Council to relieve the Port Authority of the financial burden, provided that it is<firme, concreta y solvente> .
In this regard, he clarified that <esos terrenos tenían una valoración aproximada de unos 250 millones de euros en términos lucrativos y el puerto tiene actualmente una carga financiera de 296 millones de euros> to conclude that<lógicamente no tiene sentido que nos quedemos con un préstamo y sin terrenos> , given that <el puerto también es ciudad, está generando actividad y su primera finalidad es consolidar actividad comercial, industrial y logística, generar empleo y riqueza y dar cobertura a la población en la que se asienta> .
Other topics of interest addressed at the meeting included the progress of the Marina and Parrote works, analyzing general aspects of these projects. However, technical issues related to infrastructure such as the tunnel were not discussed, as these are already being analyzed by the technical staff of both institutions. Therefore, issues such as water leaks during construction were not addressed, since, being an initial meeting, only relevant aspects were covered. Furthermore, discussions began on maintaining the current positive trend in cruise ship traffic and exploring avenues for collaboration between the Port Authority and the Tourism Consortium to enhance visitor services and strengthen A Coruña as a tourist destination.
