MSC Sinfonia's first stop in Cartagena

Arriving from Genoa and with Tangier as its next port of call, the MSC Sinfonia has reached the port of Cartagena after a refurbishment that added 24 meters to its length.

This morning, the MSC Sinfonia cruise ship made its first call at the Port of Cartagena, having sailed from Genoa and continuing on to Tangier, carrying 1,500 passengers. The MSC cruise line has scheduled three calls in Cartagena this year with its ships Sinfonia, Lirica, and Opera.

The MSC Sinfonia is a recently refurbished vessel, including a lengthening project that added a new 24-meter section, as part of the Renaissance program, which the cruise line is carrying out on several of its ships at shipyards in Genoa.

As is customary for first calls, representatives from the Port Authority and the Cartagena City Council went aboard to greet the Captain of the MSC Sinfonia and exchange ceremonial gifts. On this occasion, representatives from several travel agencies joined the cruise ship visit. President Antonio Sevilla welcomed the Captain, crew, and passengers, and thanked MSC for its commitment to the Port of Cartagena, which is reflected in the regular port calls. He expressed his hope that the cruise line will continue to place its trust in this port and destination.

Throughout 2015, April will be the busiest month for cruise ships and passengers, with a total of 18 vessels arriving at the Port of Cartagena, bringing 20,000 passengers. There will be five double calls in April, on the 16th, 17th, 22nd, 28th, and 29th. Two other busy months for cruises will be October, with 15 calls, and November, with 17 calls, both months expecting 19,000 passengers each.
