The “Isaac” cocktail pays homage to the world’s most famous bartender
Ted Lange, who played the bartender on the ship in "The Love Boat," shows off his new cocktail called "Isaac," which debuted aboard Princess Cruises ships on Valentine's Day.
Princess Cruises, the cruise line made famous by the iconic TV series "The Love Boat," launched a new cocktail just in time to sweeten Valentine's Day celebrations at sea. Ted Lange, who played Isaac, the bartender on the show, created the "Love Drink," drawing inspiration from his character's signature smile and bright red jacket. The new cocktail was available on all Princess ships in time for Valentine's Day.
Appropriately named, “Isaac”, this refreshing love potion includes white rum – a nod to Lange’s favorite cruise destination, the Caribbean; grenadine – for her character’s famous red jacket and aphrodisiac drink; two pineapple leaves as garnish and in homage to her famous salute; lemon juice and sparkling mineral water, to add a little sparkle.
Lange recently visited the Crown Princess to demonstrate his creation to the ship's waiters.

“The Love Boat put Princess Cruises on the map, bringing the romance and adventure of our cruise vacations into millions of homes during the decade it was on the air. So who better to create a special cocktail that celebrates love and romance at sea than Ted, who turned his character into the most famous bartender in the world?” said Rai Caluori, executive vice president of product development at Princess Cruises.
“Most people don’t know that while I was serving drinks on the ship, I also became a bartender in real life,” Lange said. “If a bartender recognizes me, they always want to show me their signature drink.” Now, I’m excited because my drink is going to be tasted all over the world, and I know they’re going to love it. Like the song says, “All aboard, the Isaac awaits!”
“Isaac” is the latest offering aboard Princess. Last fall, the cruise line unveiled “Chocolate Journeys,” a wide array of onboard chocolate products, including custom-made artisanal desserts, chocolate and wine pairings, and exquisite chocolate bites created by one of the leading names in artisanal chocolate, Norman Love.
To enjoy "Isaac" at home, here's the recipe:
Ingredients:
2 oz (60 ml) of white rum
2 oz (60 ml) of grenadine
15 ml of fresh lemon juice
A splash of soda
1 slice of lime
2 pineapple leaves
Serve in a tall glass.
Preparation:
Fill a tall glass with ice. In a cocktail shaker, add ice, white rum, grenadine, and lemon juice. Shake and strain into the tall glass, filling only to the top of the ice. Top with soda water and garnish with a fresh lemon slice and two pineapple leaves.
