Palma de Mallorca hosted the 8th edition of the Excellence Awards for cruise ships yesterday, February 19th, at the Es Baluard Museum
The event, attended by nearly 200 cruise industry professionals, also drew prominent figures from the political and business spheres connected to the tourism sector. The Excellence Awards, organized by Cruises News Media Group, a communications company specializing in national and international marketing and promotion for the cruise industry, are now in their eighth edition, having become a firmly established and essential event within the sector. The Excellence Awards recognize leading figures in the industry across 12 different categories. The winners are selected through a comprehensive survey of cruise passengers that began last October. The event is supported by Medcruise and sponsored by Ports de Balears and the Palma 365 Foundation as well as Delivery Warehouse, Logitravel, Viajes Kontiki, Perlart, and the Cruises in the Atlantic Islands association.
The President of the Balearic Islands Port Authority, Alberto Pons, welcomed those present and reaffirmed the importance of cruise ships for the city of Palma and its port.
Emiliano González, Managing Director of MSC Cruises, accepted the award for “Best Ship in the Mediterranean” for the MSC Preziosa. The Port Authority of Barcelona received the Excellence Award for “Best Spanish Port,” presented by the President of State Ports, José Llorca, who attended the gala once again this year.
Big winners
Pullmantur collected the award for “Best Crew” and “Best Popular Company”, while Costa Cruises won “Best Brand Recognition among Travel Agents” and “Best Image and Marketing”.
More Awards:
Tomás Fernández, Commercial Director of CroisiEurope, once again received the Excellence Award for “Best River Cruise Company,” while Venice Royal Caribbean again took home the award for “Best Onboard Entertainment.” Belén Wangüemert, General Manager for Spain and France at Royal Caribbean, emphasized the importance of the cruise line's shows, which are identical to those seen in traditional musicals. The Excellence Award for “Best Value Cruise Line” went to Norwegian Cruise Line; “Best Premium Cruise Line” to Princess Cruises ; and “Best Luxury Cruise Line” to Silversea.
Special recognition
The Balearic Islands Port Authority recognized the work of the APEAM Shipping Agents Commission for its valuable contribution to the development of cruises in the port of Palma.
Recognition Plaques
: As in previous years, Cruises News presented its recognition plaques. This year, it recognized MSC Cruises and Royal Caribbean for their commitment to the Spanish and Mediterranean markets . MSC Cruises was recognized for having the most ships in its fleet based in Spain, and Royal Caribbean for bringing the two largest cruise ships in the world, the Oasis of the Seas and the Allure of the Seas, to Spain. Finally, Virginia López , Managing Director of Cruises News Media Group, presented a recognition plaque to the President of State Ports, Mr. José Llorca Ortega, for his support and contribution to the development of the cruise industry in Spain.
