MSC Cruises launches the “Inner Island” campaign on social media

The project offers students and young graduates the opportunity to undertake paid internships in Spain, France, Germany, and Italy.

MSC Cruises has launched a new project that will offer eight young people the opportunity to see their ideas reflected in the new ship prototypes that the company plans to build over the next seven years.

The project, named “Inner Island” and open to candidates between 18 and 25 years old, has been developed by MSC Cruises and its social media partner, We Are Social, and consists of a purpose-built application that includes animated content and a social network.

Through Inner Island, students and young professionals can learn the importance of unleashing their potential with passion and talent. Players will be able to suggest ideas on four key aspects of cruises: destinations, gastronomy, entertainment , and sports and wellness.

Each player will express their personal preferences and tastes to create their own virtual "inner island." The final result will represent the player's ideal vision of a cruise vacation, from the ports of call to the onboard experience.

Of all the ideas – provided they are realistic and directly linked to MSC Cruises – the most inspired will have the opportunity to be brought to life during a six-month paid internship at MSC Cruises facilities in Spain, France, Germany and Italy starting in September 2015.

MSC Cruises CEO Gianni Onorato commented: “Inner Island is about more than just building bridges to young people. We are very aware of the serious obstacles that young Europeans currently face when starting their professional careers, and we want to open the door to this new talent that might otherwise go unnoticed.”

As demonstrated by the Renaissance Program and the order to build up to seven new, state-of-the-art ships over the next seven years, MSC Cruises is a company that places great importance on technology and innovation. As such, it constantly seeks fresh ideas to enhance the onboard MSC cruise experience for its guests. Furthermore, the family-owned MSC Cruises believes that young talent should be nurtured so that their ideas can be brought to fruition.

Mr. Onorato added: “This project is an example of MSC Cruises’ approach to social media communication, through targeted and effective campaigns that resonate with both future travelers and existing loyal customers.”

In November 2014, MSC Cruises became the first cruise company to reach three million fans on Facebook just three years after launching on this social network.
