Cruise Gate Hamburg Terminaleigentumsgesellschaft (CGH), a subsidiary of the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), is building a new cruise terminal, “Cruise Center Steinwerder,” in collaboration with Hamburg Airport and has contracted ADELTE to design, manufacture, and install two sophisticated Passenger Boarding Bridges (SPBBs), model HYDRA.
The new Cruise Centre, currently under construction in the Steinwerder area, right in the heart of the Port, will be able to serve the new generation of cruise ships from June 2015.
Unlike the existing terminals in Altona and HafenCity, the new terminal will have one building for arrivals and another for departures, both connected to ADELTE's new SPBBs, ensuring complete flexibility and efficiency during the embarkation and disembarkation operations of the 8,000 daily passengers.
“We are very excited about the new cruise terminal project. The new infrastructure will allow us to offer a high level of service to a growing number of passengers. We expect this number to double in the next 15 years. The project is progressing according to plan. The two fully custom-designed SPBBs will include the latest innovations and cutting-edge technology patented by ADELTE, thus ensuring optimal performance and complete safety and comfort for passengers, including those with reduced mobility.
The HYDRA walkways will be equipped with an innovative system patented by ADELTE: a docking ramp that allows passengers to board and disembark using access doors to the ship at a lower level than the dock.
“This is the second time our company has been contracted to supply a boarding bridge at the Port of Hamburg; the first SPBB was installed in 2011 at Cruise Center Altona and has been operating perfectly ever since.
