According to La Voz de Galicia, the Barreras shipyards, which are currently building the ultra-luxury cruise ship Azora for The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, have proposed a 6-month delay in the delivery of the ship as well as a cost overrun of 50 million euros.
The shipyard justifies the breach of contract by citing discrepancies in the initial budget of 240 million euros, lack of coordination, and variations in conditions during the construction process.
Ritz-Carlton would have the right to impose a €25 million penalty for breach of contract, which is why Barreras is currently negotiating with the shipping company to waive that clause. The maiden voyage was scheduled to depart from Fort Lauderdale on February 5, 2020; however, the ship's delivery was originally slated for December 5 after an initial one-month delay.
