MSC Cruises presents for the first time a video of its private island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve

MSC Cruises has today shared a new video render of its exclusive Bahamian island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, ahead of the first guests arriving later this year.

The new video will give viewers a detailed look at what passengers can expect when they visit the island, which is exclusive to MSC Cruises customers on their Caribbean itineraries.

Just 100 kilometers off the coast of Miami, Florida, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve was once an industrial sand quarry that has been restored to an undisturbed piece of land in the Bimini archipelago, west of the Bahamas. The 485,000-square-meter island is surrounded by 100 kilometers of marine reserve and four smaller cays.

The first passengers will arrive on the island on November 9, 2019. This private island and marine reserve will immerse visitors in the natural beauty of its surroundings, with white-sand beaches, stunning blue waters, and lush Bahamian vegetation. Passengers can move between the island and the ship throughout the day and evening to take full advantage of all the amenities available both on board and ashore.

In the video, viewers can see some of the island's key areas, including:

  • Many of unique beaches include Great Lagoon Beach: located in an inlet in the center of the island, it is the longest beach area and offers a haven with crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and water sports enthusiasts.
  • The iconic lighthouse: a stunning 30-meter-tall lighthouse housing a Hemingway-style bar and terrace where guests can enjoy incredible sea views, sip cocktails, and listen to live music. After sunset, passengers can witness a breathtaking light show.
  • Seakers Food Court: A buffet restaurant offering freshly prepared food from various international culinary traditions.
  • Ice Cream Parlour: A coffee and ice cream shop offering a wide variety of ice cream flavors and coffees, the perfect snack just steps from the beach.

Ocean Cay was founded on a deep commitment to ecological principles – beliefs that shape everything from how the venues are built to how the island is managed and the types of activities available. One of MSC Cruises' priorities at Ocean Cay is coral restoration. As an integral part of the marine ecosystem, coral needs to be protected as it ensures biodiversity, provides habitat for marine life, and protects coastlines.

From November 2019, all MSC Cruises ships departing from Miami will stop at Ocean Cay as part of their Caribbean itineraries.
