ALMACO Group has completed a major modernization project aboard the Liberty of the Seas, overseeing the renovation of multiple dining spaces, public areas, and accommodations. The work was carried out at the Damen Shipyard and was completed in May 2026.
The work in the restaurant areas included a kitchen of approximately 90 m², a pantry of 35 m² and three bar areas: Starbucks, The Lime & Coconut and El Loco Fresh, which together total about 100 m².
In addition to the restoration areas, ALMACO carried out the transformation of various public and accommodation spaces on several decks. On Deck 2, the former conference area was converted into a new cabin area with 24 units, which required structural modifications and the installation of raised flooring solutions.
On deck 10, the old library was transformed into four cabins and a new corridor, with additional work to install steel partitions.
The project also included the creation of new accommodation spaces by converting existing areas. On deck 11, part of the gym and the former spa area was rebuilt to accommodate eight larger cabins, including steel structural work.
On Deck 12, a section of the Adventure Ocean area was transformed into a new accommodation area with ten family suites. This work required close coordination with other contractors due to structural modifications made in adjacent areas.
ALMACO also transformed the former Sabor restaurant, located on deck 4, into the new Japanese restaurant concept "Izumi." The project included both the catering systems and the interior fitting-out, carried out jointly by ALMACO's catering and accommodation teams.
Communication and coordination
As a turnkey supplier , ALMACO managed the project from the engineering and procurement phases to final installation and delivery, ensuring at all times its adaptation to the ship's operational requirements.
The project presented a high level of complexity and required close communication and coordination with the client, the shipyard, the suppliers and the different contractors, both before and during the execution of the work.
Baptiste Guillou, one of ALMACO's project managers, emphasized that the success of the operation was based on "close coordination between all parties involved", supported by thorough planning and the ability to adapt to changes that arose during the project.
Guillou also emphasized the role of the collaboration with Royal Caribbean and Damen Shipyard in ensuring a smooth execution of the work, and noted that ALMACO looks forward to continuing to work with both partners on future projects.
With this action, ALMACO Group reinforces its experience in large modernization and transformation projects of spaces on board cruise ships in service.
