ALMACO Group has completed a major modernization project aboard the Liberty of the Seas, during which it was responsible for renovating multiple dining areas, public spaces, and guest accommodations on the ship. The work was carried out at Damen Shipyard and was completed in May 2026.
The renovation work included a kitchen measuring approximately 90 m², a pantry measuring 35 m², and three bar areas—Starbucks, The Lime & Coconut, and El Loco Fresh—which together total about 100 m².
In addition to the dining areas, ALMACO carried out the renovation of various public spaces and accommodations on several decks. On Deck 2, the former conference area was converted into a new cabin area with 24 cabins, which required structural modifications and the installation of raised-floor systems.
On Deck 10, the former library was converted into four staterooms and a new hallway, with additional work to install steel partitions.
The project also included the creation of new accommodations by converting existing areas. On Deck 11, part of the gym and the former spa area were rebuilt to make way for eight larger staterooms, including work on the steel structures.
On Deck 12, a section of the Adventure Ocean area was converted into a new accommodation area with ten family-style suites. This work required close coordination with other contractors due to the structural modifications made in the adjacent areas.
ALMACO also transformed the former Sabor restaurant, located on Deck 4, into the new Japanese restaurant concept “Izumi.” The project included both the food service systems and the interior fit-out, which were carried out jointly by ALMACO’s catering and hospitality teams.
Communication and Coordination
As a full-service turnkey provider, ALMACO managed the project from the engineering and procurement phases through installation and final delivery, ensuring at all times that it met the ship’s operational requirements.
The project was highly complex and required close communication and coordination with the client, the shipyard, the suppliers, and the various contractors, both before and during the execution of the work.
Baptiste Guillou, one of ALMACO’s project managers, emphasized that the operation’s success was based on “close coordination among all parties involved,” supported by thorough planning and the ability to adapt to changes that arose during the project.
Guillou also highlighted the importance of the collaboration with Royal Caribbean and Damen Shipyard in ensuring the smooth execution of the work, and noted that ALMACO looks forward to continuing to work with both partners on future projects.
With this project, the ALMACO Group is further strengthening its expertise in large-scale modernization and renovation projects for spaces aboard cruise ships currently in service.
