Yesterday, passengers aboard the Scenic Eclipse witnessed one of the most extraordinary natural phenomena: the total solar eclipse of August 12, which crossed the Arctic and the North Atlantic. Positioned off the coast of East Greenland, the Scenic Eclipse offered its passengers a prime vantage point as the Moon moved directly between the Earth and the Sun, temporarily transforming the Arctic sky above Greenland’s spectacular landscape.
The moment was captured by Tino Raimondi, a Scenic videographer specializing in the Arctic, who documented the eclipse from the ship itself.
The astronomical phenomenon took place during the current 15-day "Wonders of the High Arctic: Greenland & Iceland" cruise, which the Scenic Eclipse is undertaking between Oslo and Reykjavík. Passengers were able to view the eclipse against the extraordinary backdrop of Eastern Greenland, accompanied by commentary from Scenic’s expert Discovery Team.
The total solar eclipse on August 12 traversed the Arctic and the North Atlantic, with a path of totality that crossed Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain.
The experience also held special significance because it was viewed from a yacht named after this astronomical phenomenon, making it one of the highlights of a voyage designed to bring passengers closer to some of nature’s most remote and spectacular destinations.
The Scenic Eclipse will continue its journey through Eastern Greenland before concluding its voyage in Reykjavík on August 18.
