On August 5, Carnival Cruise Line marked a new and important chapter in its history with the appointment of Daniela Gargiulo as the first female Staff Captain in its entire fleet.
A special ceremony was held aboard the Carnival Adventure, where Captain Francesco Bencivenga officially welcomed Gargiulo as his first mate as the ship returned to Sydney from the beautiful South Pacific.
Gargiulo joined the Carnival Adventure last year and began her career with Carnival Cruise Line as a Deck Cadet in 2013, steadily rising through the ranks thanks to her 13 years of service, professionalism, and leadership. Her passion for the sea began at an early age: at 14, she enrolled in a nautical school in Italy, where she developed a love for the ocean that would stay with her for the rest of her life.
“This promotion is an incredible honor, and I am extremely proud to be the first woman in Carnival Cruise Line’s history to become Staff Captain. Carnival’s career paths offer wonderful opportunities for both men and women to pursue a life at sea,” said Gargiulo. “I love working with people from all over the world and from different cultures, and I am especially excited to begin this new chapter in my career aboard the Carnival Adventure in Australia.”
Captain Francesco Bencivenga expressed his satisfaction at working alongside Gargiulo. “As Staff Captain, Daniela is my second-in-command and oversees maritime operations, safety, and crew leadership, among many other responsibilities. I am immensely proud to witness this important step forward in gender diversity in the maritime industry, which opens the door for future generations of women leaders.”
The Carnival Adventure sets sail year-round from Sydney with more than 2,600 passengers and 1,100 crew members.
