Disney Cruise Line is moving up its ambitious fleet expansion plan and expects to add three new ships in 2029, one year earlier than initially announced. With this change, the company will have a fleet of 13 ships by the end of 2030.
The new schedule was unveiled by The Walt Disney Company during its earnings call for the third fiscal quarter of 2026 and marks an acceleration of Disney Cruise Line’s growth plans.
The company had previously announced its intention to expand its fleet to 13 ships between 2027 and 2031. The new schedule maintains the arrival of the Disney Believe for late 2027, but moves up the following launches.
Three new ships in a single year
One of the main changes involves the three boats that will make up a new class that is smaller than the Wish class.
The first of these ships, provisionally designated Ship 11, is still scheduled to enter service in 2029. However, Ship 12, initially scheduled for 2030, will also join the fleet in late 2029.
Ship 13, which was originally scheduled to debut in 2031, will also be brought forward and will begin operations in late 2030.
In addition to these ships, another major launch is planned for 2029: the cruise ship that will be operated in Japan by Oriental Land Company, a Disney partner and the operator of Tokyo Disney Resort. This ship will be separate from the three ships in Disney Cruise Line’s new class, although it is also part of the expansion plan announced by the group.
As a result, 2029 will be a particularly busy year for Disney Cruise Line, with three new ships entering service, according to the new schedule released by the company.
A New Generation of Disney Ships
The three ships in the new class will be smaller than the current ships in the Dream and Wish classes. Initial reports indicate that they will have a gross tonnage of approximately 100,000 metric tons and a capacity of about 3,000 passengers, placing them between the Magic-class ships and the largest ships in the fleet.
Disney announced this new class as a way to expand its international presence and offer ships with dimensions better suited to specific destinations and markets.
The company has not yet revealed all the details about these three future ships, including their names, itineraries, and home ports.
Disney Accelerates Its Growth in the Cruise Market
The accelerated timeline reflects the importance Disney is placing on its cruise business. In recent years, the company has undertaken the largest fleet expansion in its history, adding new ships and expanding its geographic reach.
The Disney Adventure, which began operations in Singapore in 2026, also marked Disney Cruise Line's permanent entry into the Asian market. The ship offers three- and four-night cruises from Singapore and is a key component of the company's international growth strategy.
Disney Believe, the fourth ship in the Wish class, is scheduled to debut in late 2027, before the company accelerates its fleet expansion again starting in 2029.
Under the new schedule, Disney Cruise Line will have 13 ships in service by the end of 2030, one year ahead of the initial timeline. The expansion will allow the company to significantly increase its capacity and explore new markets and destinations while maintaining its position as one of the leading family-oriented cruise brands.
