The Acapulco Cruise Port recently unveiled its new brand identity during a special event, marking an important milestone in the port’s transformation and the destination’s renewed positioning within the international cruise industry.
The event was attended by representatives of the Guerrero State Government, the Acapulco National Port System Administration, S.A. de C.V. (ASIPONA Acapulco), Global Ports Holding (GPH), Acapulco Cruise Port, representatives of the tourism sector, and members of the local community.
The new logo is inspired by one of Acapulco’s most recognizable symbols. The unveiling of the new brand identity follows the signing of a 24-year concession agreement between GPH and ASIPONA Acapulco for the operation and development of the Acapulco Cruise Port. This is GPH’s first cruise port concession in Mexico and establishes a framework for long-term collaboration to strengthen Acapulco’s role in cruise itineraries along the Mexican Riviera and the west coast of the Americas.
Mike Maura Jr., Regional Director for the Americas at Global Ports Holding, noted: “Today we are celebrating an important milestone in the valuable partnership between GPH, ASIPONA, and the citizens of Acapulco. This handover symbolizes the strong cooperation between ASIPONA and GPH, as well as our joint commitment to the development of cruise tourism in Acapulco. We are delighted to be here and very excited about the future that lies ahead.”
Under the concession agreement, GPH will manage and make progressive investments in a concession area of approximately 17,199 square meters. The planned initiatives will focus on modernizing the cruise terminal, improving passenger flow, increasing operational efficiency and safety, revitalizing the retail and dining offerings, and enhancing the overall experience for visitors arriving in Acapulco.
In addition, GPH will collaborate with cruise lines, government agencies, and local tourism operators to develop new destination experiences and shore excursions that highlight Acapulco’s culture, cuisine, heritage, and natural beauty, while creating new opportunities for local businesses and communities.
At the same time, ASIPONA Acapulco is building a new 350-meter-long cruise ship pier, funded with public funds and scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2027. This new infrastructure will allow the port to accommodate larger, state-of-the-art cruise ships, thereby strengthening the port’s capacity and promoting the long-term growth of cruise tourism in the destination.
Clarivette Díaz, Global Ports Holding’s regional director for Latin America, explained: “This new identity reflects our confidence in Acapulco and our ambition for the future of its cruise industry. Acapulco has an extraordinary legacy in tourism, a rich maritime history, and a cultural identity recognized around the world. Working closely with ASIPONA, the Government of Guerrero, our partner companies, and the local community, we want to build on these strengths to create a modern, welcoming port experience that is unmistakably linked to Acapulco.”
During the event, Emilio Vázquez Villanueva’s appointment as general manager of the Acapulco Cruise Port was also announced. Vázquez Villanueva will lead the local GPH team and work closely with ASIPONA Acapulco, government authorities, cruise lines, and community representatives to oversee port operations and the project’s ongoing development.
Acapulco Cruise Port’s new brand identity will be gradually rolled out in the port’s communications, digital platforms, signage, and all materials intended for passengers as the project progresses.
