Viking welcomes the Viking Dagur, the newest addition to its Viking Longships fleet. Built at Meyer's Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany, the Viking Dagur accommodates 190 passengers and joins the company's growing fleet of modern sister ships. It will operate some of Viking's most popular itineraries on the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers.
“We are proud to welcome Viking Dagur to our award-winning fleet of river cruise ships,” said Leah Talactac, president and CEO of Viking. “The addition of our newest river ship marks another important milestone as we continue to expand opportunities for curious travelers to discover the world in signature Viking comfort. We look forward to welcoming guests aboard this elegant vessel as she begins sailing through the heart of Europe.”.
With a capacity for 190 passengers in 95 cabins, the Viking Dagur features the elegant Scandinavian design and industry-leading innovations for which Viking is renowned. These include the patented square bow, which allows for three full decks; the Aquavit Terrace indoor and outdoor sundeck; and the unique asymmetrical corridor layout, which makes it possible to offer authentic two-room suites.
The Viking Dagur will sail some of the company's most popular itineraries, such as Rhine Getaway, Paris to the Swiss Alps, Christmas on the Rhine and Christmas on the Rhine & Moselle.
Viking remains focused on its long-term growth strategy and continues its commitment to consolidating its position as a global leader in experiential travel. Based on its confirmed order book, the company expects to add 21 new river cruise ships by 2028, nine new ocean-going vessels by 2031, and two new expedition ships, also by 2031.
With these additions, Viking will have 114 river ships in 2028 and a fleet of 26 ocean and expedition ships in 2031.
