Global Ports Holding's Next-Gen program brings students closer to the cruise industry

Global Ports Holding (GPH) has launched its Next-Gen program across its global network of 35 cruise ports in 20 countries. This initiative aims to introduce students to the dynamic world of cruises, port operations, and maritime-related professions.

Global Ports Holding's Next-Gen program brings students closer to the cruise industryLaunched to coincide with the International Day of the Seafarer, the Next-Gen program takes place in GPH ports worldwide, giving students firsthand experience of port operations. In collaboration with several cruise lines, participating ports hosted student groups for guided terminal tours, industry presentations, briefings on daily operations, and exclusive ship visits, showcasing the numerous career opportunities the sector offers, both onboard and ashore.

Since its launch earlier this year, the program has already enabled more than 350 students to participate in different educational activities organized by the ports in the GPH network, giving them a direct view of the cruise industry and the maritime field, as well as the diversity of career opportunities it offers.

The Next-Gen program acts as a bridge between the classroom and the port, offering participants hands-on experience in terminal management, passenger flow, port infrastructure, maritime technology, security, customer service, and the complex coordination required for each cruise ship call. Observing port operations during a day of service allows students to better understand the collaborative work of people, systems, and services necessary to ensure a smooth experience for both passengers and crew.

The initiative also highlights the wide range of promising career paths within the cruise and maritime transport sectors, including port operations, engineering, logistics, hospitality, security, destination management, sustainability, technology, and various specialized onshore services.

Mehmet Kutman, President and CEO of Global Ports Holding, stated:“Today we celebrate the dedication of seafarers worldwide, both within GPH and across our global network. Our Next-Gen program represents our commitment to the future by opening the doors of our ports and offering students an immersive, real-world experience of the maritime industry. This sector offers a wide variety of rewarding career paths, both at sea and onshore. Through the Next-Gen program, we help young people learn about these opportunities and encourage them to consider a future career within our industry.”

The Next-Gen program reflects GPH's commitment to local community engagement, maritime training, and talent development. By opening its ports to students and strengthening collaboration with cruise lines, Global Ports Holding is helping to build a strong pool of professionals for a constantly evolving global cruise market. As the maritime and cruise industry continues to transform, attracting and training the next generation of talent is essential to driving future growth, innovation, and operational excellence in the sector.
