September is the month in which the Port of Bilbao will receive the most cruise ships, in a year that is proving excellent for both tourism in the Basque Country and for tourism arriving by sea. Specifically, this month is expected to see the arrival of 20 of the 80 cruise ships scheduled to call at the Port Authority's facilities in Getxo in 2023. This confirms the interest that Bizkaia and the Basque Country generate for cruise tourism and the excellent ratings given by cruise lines to the infrastructure and services offered by the Port, both for the ships and for passengers.
The month began with the arrival, for the first time, of Dream , measuring 339 meters in length and with a capacity for 4,000 passengers. The MSC Fantasia, from MSC Cruises, will also make its first visit to Bilbao, arriving in port on September 6th. This ship measures 333 meters in length and has a capacity for 4,363 passengers. That same day, it will coincide with the arrival of the Star Legend from Windstar Cruises, which, at 159 meters in length and with a capacity for 312 passengers, already called at Bilbao last May. The Star Legend will spend the night in port before continuing its voyage on the 7th.
Passenger embarkation and disembarkation
Also on September 7th, the Norwegian Gem on its voyage from and to Getxo. The Norwegian Cruise Line itinerary will take passengers to some of Northern Europe's most iconic cities, such as Bordeaux, Amsterdam, London, Brussels, Paris, Lisbon, Vigo, and A Coruña, without the hassle of unpacking and carrying their luggage, before returning to Getxo on September 19th. The Norwegian Gem will depart again on the same day, this time bound for Civitavecchia in Rome, where it will arrive on October 1st after stops in Lisbon, Portimão, Cádiz, Gibraltar, Motril, Ibiza, Palma, Saint-Tropez, and La Spezia.
This September will also see calls from ships such as the Norwegian Getaway, the Seven Seas Voyager, the Azamara Journey or Seven Seas Splendor and vessels from companies such as Regent 7 Seas, Azamara, Celebrity Cruises, Aida Cr. (Carnival), or Silver Cruises (RCCL), among others, represented by Incargo, MSC, Bergé, Marmedsa, Pérez y Cía. or Transcoma.
