Michael Thamm, CEO of the Costa Group since 2012, will leave the company with immediate effect. The Costa Group, currently comprised of Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises, is part of Carnival Corporation. Mario Zanetti, president of Costa Cruises, and Felix Eichhorn, president of AIDA Cruises, will now report to Josh Weinstein, CEO of Carnival Corporation, as Thamm's position will not be filled.
This decision has caused great surprise in the sector, as Thamm is one of the industry's most experienced executives. He joined AIDA Cruises in 1993 and became president of the German company in 2004. In 2012, he rose again, taking the helm of the Costa Group just months after the Costa Concordia disaster. He led the brand's recovery and growth in China, which was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
