Greek brothers Dimitrios and Tasos Kafetzis have been named co-captains of Celebrity Ascent, the fourth ship in Celebrity Cruises' Edge Series, which will debut in the winter of 2023.
The brothers will usher in a new era for the cruise company, taking the helm of the new ship, with a design created by British designer Kelly Hoppen CBE; American designer Nate Berkus and Michelin-starred chef and restaurateur Daniel Boulud.
“Captain Dimitrios and Captain Tasos are a dream maritime team,” Lutoff-Perlo declared.
Captain Dimitrios has dedicated his entire maritime career, spanning more than three decades, to Celebrity Cruises, having started as an Apprentice Officer aboard Celebrity's first ship, the Horizon, in 1990.
Captain Tasos also graduated from the Higher School of the Merchant Marine, joined Celebrity Cruises in 1998 and, throughout his more than 20 years of career with the brand, has participated in the opening of Celebrity SummitⓇ, Celebrity SolsticeⓇ, Celebrity EquinoxⓇ and Celebrity ReflectionⓇ.
The brothers will alternate their time on the Celebrity Ascent in a three-month in-and-out rotation.

The Sunset Bar, designed by Nate Berkus, and more than 30 food and beverage options, including the high-tech, fully immersive Le Petit Chef Dinner experience (currently expanding in New York and Los Angeles, but only available at sea on Celebrity Cruises), and the Eden restaurant, which will continue to offer its three-story picture windows, inventive mixology-focused cocktails, an action-packed open kitchen, and unforgettable globally inspired dishes from around the world.
