After a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic, “Around the World” cruises are now back to normal, as evidenced by the numerous departures this week.
The MSC Poesia and the MSC Magnifica are carrying 4,200 passengers on a voyage to 54 countries. The MSC Poesia’s 117-day voyage will call at 53 ports in 33 countries. The ship will cross the Atlantic, transit the Panama Canal, and sail along the west coast of Central and North America before heading across the Pacific Ocean to Asia for an extended period. The MSC Magnifica’s 119-day cruise, featuring 43 destinations in 24 countries, will circumnavigate South America following a transatlantic voyage, cross the South Pacific, and continue through the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, and the Red Sea before returning to the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal.
Brazilian chef Allan Vila Espejo will serve a menu aboard both ships. Meanwhile, Roy Yamaguchi, an internationally renowned Japanese-American chef, and Niklas Ekstedt, a Swedish chef, will offer menus on the MSC Poesía, while Peruvian chef James Berckemeyer will serve his menu aboard the MSC Magnifica.
The Costa Deliziosa will visit 52 destinations over 128 days, on a round-trip voyage from Trieste. The ship will travel from the Mediterranean to the Arabian Peninsula, sailing eastward to India and the Maldives, then heading south to Madagascar and South Africa, and crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Brazil. Heading south to Ushuaia, at the southern tip of Argentina, the Costa Deliziosa will then sail through the Beagle Channel and travel up the Pacific coast from Chile to Panama, visiting Central America and continuing on to New York before returning to Europe.
About 2,000 passengers from 40 countries have booked tickets, with the majority being French, Italian, German, Swiss, Spanish, and Austrian. Onboard entertainment will be themed around the destinations, such as “Bollywood Night,” “Tropical Party,” “Brazilian Party,” and “Arabian Night.”
Holland America Line's Volendam and Zuiderdam set sail from Port Everglades on January 3. The Zuiderdam began its 128-day “Grand World Cruise,” while the Volendam embarked on its 74-day “Grand South America and Antarctica Cruise.”
Holland America Line officials welcomed passengers at the terminal, and both cruise ships will end their voyages at Port Everglades. They will travel more than 52,000 nautical miles, calling at 43 countries.
