The report announces Costa Cruises' renewed sustainability strategy, focused on four thematic areas, nine material themes, and 21 objectives. In line with the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and following a thorough ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) analysis, four key priorities, expressing the company's vision for the future: moving towards climate neutrality; regenerating resources; empowering people; and building a transformative ecosystem.

“This is the sixteenth edition of our sustainability report, a figure that testifies to our consolidated and pioneering commitment to sustainability,” said Mario Zanetti, President of Costa Cruises.

He added – “Our work will continue in the coming years, with a strategy that focuses on the transformative power of travel, The Good Power of Travel: a business model that, in addition to making our guests happy, is capable of generating social, environmental and economic value.”

Regarding climate neutrality, Costa Cruises' ambition is to introduce a new generation of ships that can operate with net-zero carbon emissions by 2050; further improve the energy efficiency of its current fleet and support innovation in port infrastructure.

Regarding resource regeneration, selective collection and 100% recycling of materials such as plastic, paper, glass, and aluminum is already carried out on all ships. Furthermore, 90% of daily water needs are met by desalination using seawater.

The third strategic area, focused on empowering people, affects both the company's guests and employees. For guests, the goal is to raise awareness so they become increasingly responsible travelers in their choices, while for employees, the objective is to promote a fair and inclusive work environment and enhance their skills. In this regard, remote work hours in 2021 totaled more than 774,000 and training hours nearly 120,000, for a community of employees across 70 countries and 5 continents.

The final strategic area for building a transformative ecosystem concerns the value generated in the territories and communities that host Costa's ships. In 2021 alone, Costa's ships visited 31 ports, following 17 different itineraries, revitalizing an ecosystem that includes nearly 16,000 suppliers.

An essential part of Costa's commitment to people and the planet is expressed through the high-impact projects of the Costa Crociere Foundation, an independent non-profit organization that has already carried out a total of 31 environmental and social projects, benefiting more than 125,000 people from more than 130 different nationalities.
