Costa Cruises continues its commitment to the Spanish market and the port of Barcelona, adding another ship to its fleet this summer season: the Costa Firenze. It will arrive in Barcelona again tomorrow, Saturday, April 9, after its season in the Emirates. This brings the total number of ships the company will operate in ports on the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands to three: the Costa Firenze and its sister ships, the Costa Toscana and Costa Smeralda.
The Costa Firenze arrives in Barcelona from Genoa, where last Thursday the Italian city's institutions signed their adherence to the Manifesto for Value-Based, Sustainable, and Inclusive Tourism, as the Barcelona City Council did last November. This ten-point manifesto summarizes Costa Cruises' commitment to growing alongside the regions visited by its ships, considering destinations not as a collection of tourist attractions, but as communities that must move towards a tourism model that generates greater economic and social value, seeking a new "renaissance" of sustainable tourism.
Costa's program includes more than 1,800 cruises from spring 2022 through winter 2022-23, allowing guests to discover 179 destinations worldwide on itineraries ranging from 3 to 127 days. All of these cruises will feature the new product innovations the company has been developing in recent months, including a new range of shore excursions and outstanding culinary offerings from Michelin-starred chefs such as Ángel León from Cádiz.
Specifically, the Costa Firenze will make 34 calls in Barcelona this season. The city will also welcome the Costa Smeralda, a pioneering LNG-powered ship since 2018, every Monday. Both ships will offer week-long itineraries to enjoy the calm Mediterranean waters. The Costa Firenze will call at Barcelona, Cagliari, Palermo, Civitavecchia/Rome, Genoa, and Marseille. The Smeralda will visit Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Palermo, Rome/Civitavecchia, Savona, and Marseille.
Meanwhile, the Costa Toscana, the company's new flagship, will be based in the port of Valencia this summer season. This means that Spain will not only have three Costa Cruises ships calling at its ports, but these are also the latest additions to the company's fleet, along with the Costa Venezia, currently operating in the Eastern Mediterranean with a captivating itinerary through Turkey and Greece. All four ships are the most modern and technologically advanced in the Italian fleet, with two of them representing an environmental milestone thanks to their propulsion by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), the cleanest fuel currently available.
