Cunard Line presents details of the Queen Anne cruise ship's design

Following the highly anticipated unveiling of the Queen Anne's name on February 8, Cunard is proud to present exciting design details. The Queen Anne has been created with some of the finest talent of our time to write a stunning new chapter in Cunard's history, drawing inspiration from the brand's remarkable past.
Designers David Collins Studio, Richmond International, and Sybille de Margerie, in collaboration with Creative Director Adam D. Tihany, are working together to create an extraordinary and modern approach to the design of the spaces, suites, and décor. For the first time, David Collins Studio and Sybille de Margerie are bringing their land-based expertise to the world of ship design.

The core concept is based on heritage, craftsmanship, storytelling, style, and innovation. These five pillars became the DNA of the ship's design and, therefore, the driving force behind the designers' inspiration, who worked in unison. Adam D. Tihany, Cunard's Chief Creative Officer, emphasized how these five values would interact: “Just as a world-renowned orchestra conveys a feeling, or transports you to a moment or an era, the aesthetic of the Queen Anne would do the same by recalling Cunard's golden age, but through the bold and forward-thinking lens of modernity.”.

The design teams turned to the Cunard archives, which are kept at the University of Liverpool, and obtained a wealth of historical documents and details about the design, materials, fabrics, patterns, and textures.

Simon Rawlings, Creative Director at David Collins Studio, says of the design: “We wanted to create something nostalgic yet contemporary, relaxed yet glamorous, new and exciting, all within the constraints of a boat.”.

“We worked very closely with Cunard’s shipbuilding team during the design process to gather as much knowledge as possible,” explains Lewis Taylor, design director at David Collins Studio, regarding the process.

Cunard Queens Grand Suites. The Queens Grill Grand Suites offer guests their own private residences on board and provide a new level of exclusivity, with every finish carefully curated in each room. Designed by the David Collins studio.

The Princess Grill Suites, designed by Sybille de Margerie, are warm, welcoming and surrounded by the softest materials and most delicate textures to offer an intimate experience.

The Britannia's balcony cabins offer inviting seating areas with sea views and bright bathrooms with glass showers for a more relaxed and luxurious experience.

Marking the transition from past to present, the area houses a contemporary metal wall sculpture that changes throughout the day thanks to an integrated lighting effect, with an Art Deco slant paying homage to the “Golden Age” of travel.

Royal Court Theatre. This two-story, 825-seat venue was designed by Richmond International. All seats offer maximum comfort and are adorned with rich velvet, providing every guest with a perfect view of the stage, where they can enjoy a wide variety of performances throughout the day and night.

Each of the fifteen restaurants on board the Queen Anne is distinctive, where guests can enjoy a wide variety of cuisines from around the world.

Another vital aspect of the overall project is the color palette, which has been individually selected for each space in order to create a unique atmosphere in each environment.

Another first for Cunard, the ship's updated exterior will debut a refined, updated livery, with a perfected design of the iconic crest and the introduction of a sleek new typeface inspired by the great ocean liners of the past, to confidently display the name Queen Anne on the bow.

Lee Powell, Vice President of the Cunard brand, adds: “We’ve worked with world-leading interior designers and new creative talent; and we’ve delved deep into the Cunard archives to make sure we can truly celebrate what makes Cunard so unique.”.

The Queen Anne will set sail in early 2024, and its inaugural season program will be available for booking from May 2022.
