Every two years, Hamburg hosts one of its biggest maritime events, and for one weekend, the Elbe waterfront transforms into the cruise hub of Europe. The Hamburg Cruise Days 2022 event has confirmed its dates for this year, from Friday, August 19th to Sunday, August 21st, 2022.
Around 500,000 visitors enjoyed the last edition held in 2019, with culinary delights, shows, and, of course, cruise ships. The event returns to the Elbe River this August, a clear sign of the port's recovery.
The Cruise Ship Parade is led by several major cruise ships. Big names like the AIDAprima, the Mein Schiff 3, the MS Europa, and the MSC Preziosa have joined the impressive parade in previous years. Several smaller ships and a spectacular fireworks display make the parade the highlight of Hamburg Cruise Days, and each evening, artist Michael Batz illuminates the port area with brilliant blue lights, creating a breathtaking spectacle.
Innovation and environmental protection are important and far-reaching issues, which the event also aims to promote and serve as a platform for dialogue.
Michael Otremba, managing director of Hamburg Tourismus GmbH, highlights the importance of the event for the tourism sector: “There is great interest in the Hamburg Cruise Days from cruise enthusiasts and also from the travel industry.”
The organizers, Uwe Bergmann (uba) and Katja Derow (redroses communications), say: “We promise the inhabitants of Hamburg and all visitors to the city a magical and cutting-edge event.”
