The Cruise Lines International Association has published its Cruise Industry Outlook 2022. This report shows how the industry has continued its responsible reactivation with verified protocols that are leading the way in the transport and tourism sector; it highlights the cruise industry's contribution to local and national economies around the world and reflects its ongoing progress towards achieving carbon neutrality.
“The Cruise Industry Outlook 2022 provides an opportunity to reflect on the journey undertaken by CLIA’s member cruise lines, which have welcomed more than six million passengers since operations resumed in July 2020. While our focus on health and safety remains unwavering, our industry is also leading the way in environmental sustainability and destination stewardship,” said Kelly Craighead, CLIA President and CEO. “Blue tourism is a significant economic driver, and we will continue to work in partnership with destinations to help communities thrive through responsible tourism. Our members are also investing in new technologies and ships and are pursuing the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.”

It is estimated that 16 new ocean-going ships (CLIA fleet) will debut throughout 2022, of which five will be LNG-powered and nine will be expedition ships; 100% will be equipped with advanced wastewater treatment systems.
