Ports of Tenerife promotes La Palma as a cruise destination after the eruption was officially declared over on December 13, 2021

The Port Authority of Tenerife has launched an online promotional campaign for cruise lines. The Authority manages five cruise ports located on four different islands, one of which is the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma, situated on the island affected by the volcanic eruption that began in September of last year and was officially declared over on December 13, 2021, by the Spanish National Observatory. However, port activities were not affected at all by the volcano, and cruise passengers continued to visit the island and enjoy its beauty, as usual.

The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is truly committed to cruise traffic in all its ports and constantly invests in improving its facilities. Furthermore, all ports managed by the Port Authority, as well as local companies operating in the Ports of Tenerife, are following health protocols in accordance with the required measures and implementing procedures to guarantee the safety and health of passengers.

In this vein, the promotional campaign will include all ports managed by the AP, but with an emphasis on the smaller ports of the islands of La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma, as well as the port of Los Cristianos (Tenerife), mainly focused on luxury and expedition cruise lines, due to the size of the ships and the exclusivity of the destinations.

Statistics show that cruise lines continue to consider Tenerife's ports among their favorite destinations. For example, La Gomera received 87 cruise ship calls in 2021, 36 more than in 2019. El Hierro, meanwhile, handled 33 cruise ships last year, tripling the figures reached in 2019. La Palma managed 90 calls in 2021, slightly fewer than in 2019, but bookings for 2022 increased significantly, as did the number of cruise ships visiting the island. Cruises from 23 different lines are expected in 2022, all interested in taking their passengers to enjoy the beauty of La Palma.

In this vein, the online campaign to promote these islands as a cruise destination will focus on both loyal customers and new companies.
