MSC Cruises and Fincantieri celebrate the float-out test of the MSC Seascape

MSC Cruises celebrated the float-out of its upcoming flagship, MSC Seascape, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. This traditional event brings together the ship's owner and builders to witness the moment the vessel touches the water for the first time. MSC Seascape is scheduled for delivery in November 2022, becoming the second ship in the innovative Seaside EVO class to join the MSC Cruises fleet and the fourth in the Seaside family of ships.

Pierfrancesco Vago, CEO of MSC Cruises, said: “The launch of MSC Seascape marks another important milestone in the growth of our fleet, and the ship will pay tribute to the oceans through a host of highly innovative maritime and design features.” “We have continued with our ambitious new ship building plans, despite the pandemic, and today is a double celebration for MSC Cruises, as our next flagship, MSC Seascape, floats into the water on the same day as the inauguration of its sister ship, MSC Seashore, at our island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.”

“MSC Seascape, together with MSC Seashore, is showcasing some of the latest technologies and environmental solutions to minimize its impact on the environment, which will help us take another step towards realizing our ambition to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,” Mr. Vago added.

Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri, added: “Such an impressive ship makes it all the more thought-provoking to reflect on the enormous amount of work behind its construction. We began work on MSC Seascape almost at the same time as the health emergency began, and today, together with an established operator like MSC Cruises, we celebrate its launch in line with pre-pandemic plans. The strong determination to meet production commitments and preserve the entire order backlog has become the hallmark of our Group, a true cornerstone of our corporate culture, and there could be no better prerequisite for looking to the future with renewed confidence.”

The 169,400-ton MSC Seascape ship will be able to accommodate up to 5,877 passengers with 13,000 m2 of outdoor space.
